Mediation

Mediation is the method of dispute resolution whereby an appropriately trained mediator, neutral to both parties, helps them negotiate and reach a mutually acceptable solution.

The role of the Ombudsman is to facilitate communication and negotiation between the parties involved without taking a position in favor of the view of one or the other.

Mediation as a method of dispute resolution is characterized by the following advantages:

(a) Speed: Mediation usually ends within a few days of its initiation with a maximum of one month.
(b) Low cost
(c) Re-establishing relations between the two parties: The mediator can cause new and different dynamics in the course of the negotiations and re-establish relations between the parties involved.
